Smith Of Wotten Major is written by J.R.R. Tolken is a fictional story about the gift of fantasy. The time is the middle ages, the place a small community called Wotten Major. This small village is well known in its country for the skills of its workers in various crafts, but most of all for its cooking. It had a large kitchen run by a master cook which was appointed by the previous cook upon his retirement. The cooks living quarters and his divine kitchen adjoined the great hall, the villages old and most beautiful building. In this building were held many great feasts, parties, and was the council's meeting place for debates and other political matters. Of all the party's festivals and feast that took part in the great hall, none was most largely anticipated then the feast of good children, for it lasted a week and came every 24 years. Upon the eve of this partaking's last day their was a final feast. The feast of twenty four to which their were only twenty four children invited. For this final endeavor the master cook was expected to bake a great cake, For of this his name was chiefly remembered for a master cook seldom remain in office long enough to bake a second great cake.The present cook at the time was no where to be found for he left without notice. Later upon his short returned back to the town he appointed an apprentice to help him along with his cooking. But shortly after his return, he again left leaving the town without a master cook. The village council plagued with ideas finally decided to appoint a man of the village. Now this man cooked fairly well and had helped the master cook at busy occasions, but the master cook never thought and would not put him as an apprentice.Nokes for that was his name, pleased with these turn of events, for he had always wanted to be the master cook.
