There are many experiences, which have special meaning, through out a person’s life. Through out these experiences some may be good and some may be bad. My experience came in a bad way but turned out to be good in many ways. It was June 6, 1999, at around 4:45 in the afternoon, I was on the way to my first baseball game of the summer season. The fact of the matter is that I didn’t remember anything that happened that day. I was told what happened by my parents when I woke up in the hospital later that night. I was informed that I was hit on the passenger side door of my Honda Civic by a GMC Van, which ran a red light at the intersection of the North Service road of the Long Island Expressway and Route 112. The rescue team had to use the Jaws of Life to cut the roof of my car because the severe impact had trapped me unconscious and injured. I also didn’t know why I was wearing my baseball uniform and why I left the house that day, but my mom was by my side to tell me that I was on my way to a baseball game at the PAL complex on Furrows road. I suffered a minor laceration to my forehead and upper lip, a concussion, and a separated shoulder.Until this day I took a lot of things for granted through out my young life, as for being able to walk out of the hospital that night. I didn’t start to realize how lucky I was until everyone who saw the accident told me how lucky I was to be alive, and how that was the worst accident they had ever seen. At first, I thought I was just lucky to walk out of the hospital without any broken bones, but then soon realized how easily my life could have been ended prematurely. This experience turned out to be one I’ll never forget and one that is very special to me. It has showed me not to take anything for granted and live life to the fullest.
