First, I would like to congratulate you on your statements in support of the Kyoto Protocol. As the Prime Minister, it is your duty to see the big picture and make the best decisions concerning everything and everybody in Canada. I truly believe that ratifying the Kyoto Protocol will not only be beneficial to the environment, but also to our society in many ways. The reason I am preoccupied with this issue is because, as a Canadian citizen, I feel that the health of our population is extremely important, especially since our population is not increasing and growing older. More and more people are asthmatic because of the poor quality of the air they are breathing. An excess of gases like carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide causes such air. It is much more efficient to prevent many similar diseases instead of healing those affected.By signing the Kyoto treaty, we allow our society as well as our environment to be healthier. It is more than probable that this project will give credit for “carbon sinks” such as forests. Because trees absorb carbon, it will not only decrease the emission of carbon, in the atmosphere for us to have better air to breath, but it will also promote the importance of our green land and therefore discourage deforestation. The ratification of the Kyoto Protocol will not only result of great positive impacts on the environment, but also on our economy. Many studies have shown that such a project can create thousands of jobs as well as promoting economic growth. It will obviously not happen instantly, but in the long run it will benefit all of us. If we do not act now, the day will come where we will be obligated to pay the price with a lot more sacrifices than today.I understand that you are considering a similar project (which is much less efficient) that the US has in mind. However, I truly believe that it is time for us to show the world that Canada is not only the US’ little sister, but t...
