The Taming of the Shrew is a book that is hard to understand until you get into the depth of it. It seems bad on the outside, but once you get into the inside you understand what is happening. Most people know what a shrew is and to tame one you need patience and confidence that you will be able to tame it and bring it up the way you want it. In Taming of the Shrew Petruchio tries to tame Katharina who is the most devilish person. He falls in love with her madness and decides he wants to tame her. It turns out in the end Katharina realizes what Petruchio is really trying to do.When Petruchio and Katharina first meet she does not like him at all. She is still wild and likes to scream. Petruchio even tells her that he loves her, but she does not listen. Throughout the first talk Petruchio would try to say things to make Katharina stop and stay longer. One time he said "I swear I’ll cuff you, if you strike again." (35) It is clear that Petruchio is trying Kate stay longer and to think about things. After all the fussing and yelling Katharina does to make Petruchio mad he goes to Baptista (Katharina’s father) and asks for his daughter’s hand in marriage. Baptista is shocked, but says yes. Katharina and Petruchio still become married although Katharina still does not like him. In the beginning their relationship was odd and it seemed that it was going to come to an end because Katharina was still a devilish person hitting, kicking, and telling Petruchio she hated him. Since Petruchio loved Katharina he decides he will stick and become a grouch so he can tame Katharina. He would yell and throw things just so Katharina could not eat or sleep. While Petruchio is taming Katharina, Katharina does everything Petruchio tells her to do. For example one time Petruchio needed water so he sent Katharina out to go get it.
