The Progressive party called for revisions of the currency system, introduction of an inheritance tax, standing for “social brotherhood” and opposed “savage individualism”. Also, minimum wage was set for women, worker’s compensation laws, and stronger regulation of child labor laws were fought for by the Progressive party. The party was comprised of College professors, social workers, newspaper editors, former rough riders, and wealthy people. These people all had similar beliefs and wished for them to be heard and represented by Theodore Roosevelt as he did.Roosevelt was not apposed to all trusts. He wanted to leave “honest” corporations alone. He felt that federal legislation was needed for trusts that damaged the public or worked outside the law. Congress followed Roosevelt’s lead and passed the Expedition Act. Also, The Department of Commerce and labor was established to empower interstate commerce. The Department of Justice also began to tend to more trust busting suits....
