After reading theses reviews, neither piece of literature, written about 30 years apart gave me any disappointment during reading, besides the disappointment in how humans can treat other humans in such a horrendous way. Although each has a totally different story, there are many similarities in how they had to survive day to day. The genders and racial or ethnic status of each individual had a huge impact in how they lived their life.Maria De Jesus began writing her diary in the year of 1955. She was the mother of 3 children without a husband living in Brazil in an area called a fevela. I am used to being dirty. Ive carried paper for eight years.
