Should abortion be legalized? During the past quarter century, abortion has joined race and war as one of the most debatable subjects of controversy in the United States. It discusses human interaction where ethics, emotions and law come together. Abortion poses a moral, social and medical dilemma, that faces many individuals to create a emotional and violent atmosphere. There are many points of view toward abortion but the only two fine distinctions are "pro-choice" and "pro-life." A pro-choicer would feel that the decision to abort a pregnancy is that of the mothers and the state has no right to interfere. A pro-lifer would hold that from the moment conception, the embryo or fetus is alive. They feel its a moral obligation to preserve it and that abortion is murder. (Lyons,pg.9) There are some who believe that a woman has the right and choice to have an abortion. There are many circumstances backing this decision. Babies having babies! The majority of teenage girls who get pregnant drop out of high school. If a female gets pregnant, it doesnt mean she has to be one of those girls that drop out of school because they didnt have the legal right to have an abortion. If she keeps that child she has a 50% chance to have good life, or 50% chance of having her life being ruined because the government made the choice for her and other females.(Lyons, pg.10) Some of these teenage girls have abortions without their parents knowing it because of fear of parental response, lack of money, and lack of maturity; moreover, theyre not even mature enough to take care of themselves let alone take care of another person, especially if he or she has to do it by themselves. Most young girls dont even consider abortion as a bad thing as long as you do it before a certain semester in the pregnancy.
