Serious Sam

You've seen the movies and the screenshots. Now find out the story behind one of the best FPS games in ages. From the start (which is completely different than the original public demo), Serious Sam makes no mistake in stating its intentions. It's an FPS game with basically no storyline, no character development and no NPC interaction. It is, however, one of the most fun FPS games we've played in ages. The gameplay is pure adrenaline and the level and enemy design are both top-notch. The weapons could be a little more creative, but we really just like going in and blowing the hell out of everything. Some may argue that a game like Serious Sam is a slap in the face to all the progress made in the FPS genre over the last decade. To that we say, "Play the game." It's visceral, it's fast, it looks great and above all, it's fun.In the beginning, the player is transported to a different universe/time that resembles Ancient Egypt. It is here that what little story there is plays itself out in a short cutscene. The player has to find four different elements that are placed throughout the world. Of course, they aren't just sitting around waiting to be picked up. The evil Mental has placed his minions everywhere, and the only way to the elements is over their dead bodies."Bodies" should not be overlooked. The Serious Engine handles dozens of enemies at a time without blinking, and the variety can be overwhelming. The headless, screaming kamikaze is back (as seen in the first public demo) and he's brought along a lot of new friends. There are galloping skeleton-like things that most will grow to hate, frogs that attack en masse, and even some MechWarrior-esque droids that fire plasma and rockets. Everything is presented in a fashion that's both amazing and terrifying at once. The game pulls no punches when it comes to overwhelming the player with enemies, and it's not just at the end of levels -- it's constant.All the monsters and other sorts o...
