Be realistic when setting their goals, because they are exposed to more today than traditional would predict.•Teens have a tendency to rebel against authority, sometimes due to peer pressure, desire for an image, adult pressures, and curiosity. •As teachers, we must listen to the students. They have a valid message to offer on levels that adults do not think on.•Talk to the adololescents instead of just assuming that you know how they think. Be concrete in thinking but open to new ideas.•Aggressive behavior is acquired thru a learning process, therefore it can be changed. Unlearned.•Development•From “Inside the Teen Brain” p. 28 AE, teens assert independence. Hormones are partly to blame. •The teenage brain is far from mature, scientists used to believe that it was already developed, but recent studies by Neuroscientists show that it doesn’t completely develop until they reach the age of the 20’s. •Moodyness in teens is common due to this lack of development.•The brain police is run by a different system in teens than in adults. Limbic – prefrontal cortex.•Teens don’t yet have the help of the prefrontal cortex in emotional tasks and decision making. Can’t make good judgements, trouble organizing multiple tasks.•Mentoring and motivating and encouraging is very important for their development.•Often, the transition from elementary .* middle school is a big jump that can lead to failure.
