P. Morgan: Who can you Really TrustMorgan is a family name that will forever be synonymous with wealth and power in the north; from Miles Morgan, the first Morgan to step foot in America, to J. P. Morgan, a man who brought the Morgan family name to the prestige at which it stands today. Although the Morgans were most commonly known for their financial banking abilities, they had their hands in almost every part of commerce that they could grasp a hold of; from railroads, to steel, to maritime trade, to agriculture, even electricity and the first telephones. They manipulated the different companies and stock holdings to monopolize the modern industries forming large companies called trusts in order to control all aspects of trade and influence. The Morgans, considerably J. P. Morgan, were known not only for their wealth and authority but for their patronage as well, or what seemed to many as patronage. Although J. P. Morgan benefited from most of his endeavors he was still not quite the man others made him out to be, he saw his actions as the thing to do, even if it did mean lining his pockets at the expense of those around him. He came to America from England to start a new life for his family, a life that one could be proud of, and he did.
