The in fluctuation of immigrants was caused mostly because of European countries population increase. Most of these immigrants were from European descent and of North Western Europe. These immigrants faced many problems. Many of them came here with nothing more than themselves. Others did bring along some trades and were successful, but that was of minority and of the higher class. The majority of the immigrants were very poor. Most were able to farm and keep themselves fed. In order for these immigrants to achieve they had to learn and also wanted some kind of government help from this great place. It did take a while for this to happen but it eventually did. Immigrants faced problems with diseases, and common sicknesses could even be deadly. Immigrants had to find a way to better themselves in society. They formed schools and even a health care plan to help take care of themselves. Most of the immigrants were of peasant life; making farming their main source of production. Handlins book provided a very clear explanation of how these immigrants had to live and how bad the life style was for many of them. I think Handlin is a person who cares about all of human race. Oscar Handlin is a Black man and he does not express this in his book. Reading the book you would never know this, but after learning Handlin was a graduate of Harvard with a PhD its easy to see he was very educated and a smart writer. ...
