John Smith and William Bradford The author John Smith, a pilgrim who arrived to the Americas, wrote a description of the new land in his book “ A Description of New England ”. In this book Smith shows awonderful world of vast foodand pleasure. Also, William Bradford another pilgrim who arrived toPlymouth on the coast ofMassachusetts, wrote a book called “ Of Plymouth Plantation ” in which hedescribes what reallyhappened their, how the pilgrims actually lived. The purpose of thisessay is to compare and contrastboth authors and their books. John Smith wrote about the wonderful placethe New World was, on theother hand, William Bradford wrote about the realities and difficulties ofthe New World. In “ A Description of New England ”, Smith starts by describing thepleasure and content that riskingyour life for getting your own piece of land brings to men. On the otherhand, Bradford reminds us how difficult the trip to the New World was for the pilgrims. Smith alsoimplies that building your ownhouse; planting your own crops, and having a “ God’s blessing industry ”would be easy to have withouthaving any prejudice. Bradford, instead, writes about the condition of themen who arrived to the shore.He also mentions that, in the New World there was no one to welcome them,more over there was noplace to stay in, no houses, no inns. Smith argues about the pleasure oferecting towns and populatingthem.John Smith mentions little of the Native Americans in some of his writings,And if he briefly mentions astory about them. What is so odd about his writings though is one minute heis thankful for the Indiansthe next minute he is fighting the Indians.
