In 1945 the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, creating havoc and death and a new era of warfare. From Einstein's theory to the development of the current day atomic satellite missiles, the atomic bomb has continued to grow in explosive power. The increasing measure of the destructive power of the atomic bomb was first observed when it was secretly detonated in Trinity; secondly when it was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and today on small uninhabited islands.The birth of the first atomic project was located in Trinity, New Mexico. The Germans discovered nuclear fission, which is the basis of the nuclear detonation, and Albert Einstein brought the theory to the United States (Alperovite 164). United States government applied the physics of nuclear fission/fusion in the 1942 Manhattan project during WWII to develop the atom bomb (Cochran). The Manhattan project was an attempt to create the atom bomb, the most powerful bomb of its time (Maddox 25). The United States finished the Manhattan Project before the Germans and on June 16, 1945 America detonated its first successful test in Trinity, New Mexico(Rhodes and Richard 88-93). Briliant lights and a massive mushroom clout that was an effect of the explosion was seen for miles around. This massive explosion could be seen from Albuquerque, New Mexico, the shock wave broke windows up to 120 miles awat while the tremors were felt 160 miles from ground zero. The Trinity explosion made a ten food deep crater. After examining the site of the explosion the sand had beed truned to glass, and the tower which the bomb was stored in was reduced to four stumps.The Manhattan Project is a milestone in history and Trinity is now a national landmark.The first atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan was the Little Boy bomb.
