Jules Verne, a Frenchman, grew up in Nantes, a port city in France. He read law, but he his real dream was to become a writer, and while still a very young man he took much pleasure in writing plays and opera pieces. Many of the stories and tall-tales of the sea were brought back from seamen looking for attention. They were told with great exaggeration, which stimulated Jules mind, which gave him ideas and such.Jules family disapproved of his decision to become a write, for his dad practiced law and always expected Jules to become a lawyer. They continued to disapprove of his decision up until some of his work was published and he started to become known.Of Jules writings we know of today, his first work wasnt anything like it. He started out with writing a play, which was produced and put on show for a profit. This gave him respect he deserved, but he still struggled as a poorly paid writer for 7 years. At age 35, he wrote his first novel, a romance, called Five Weeks in a Balloon which was acknowledged with support. From that day on he has been able to live by his pen. Since then he has written about two books every year. Many of the well-known productions are Around the World in 80 Days, The Mysterious Island, From the Earth to the Moon, Around the Moon, and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea. He aimed to write books that the young audience could enjoy and profit from. Jules Verne cleverly used realistic detail and believable explanations to support incredible tales of adventure (World Book, 354)....
