“Defend my dead painting now, Giovanni, and my honor not being in a good place nor I a painter.” This is a quote from Michelangelo and it is pretty much saying that all these people defend his painting (the Sistine ceiling) his teacher and him but in his mind he is no painter. He believed he was a sculptor, however being a man of many traits he took on the roles as painter and studied anatomy as well. People think of him as being the greatest sculptor ever to live. His awesome depictions of human form are amazing. However this paper is not going to focus on just one particular trait or one piece of work it is going to reflect on Michelangelo as an artist and show you different things he did with all of his pieces. Michelangelo was born on March 6, 1475. He was the second of five brothers and his parents where named Ludovico di Leonardo di Buonarotto Simoni and Francesca Neri. He was born in Caprese (a small city in Tuscany). Although living here he considered himself a son of Florence just like his pops. Michelangelo’s mother was to sick to nurse him and he was taken care of by what they called a wet nurse (babysitter).
