Peninsula Fine Arts Center The Peninsula Fine Arts Center, located in Newport News, VA is a fabulous museum where one can view and experience modern art at its finest. One aspect of the museum is its location. Surrounded by beautiful landscape the center can be looked upon as a diamond in the ruff. The Fine Arts Center was featuring the Hechingers Collection titled Tools as Art. Some pieces that stood out were Chester Arnolds Correction 1987. This oil painting shows a hammer taking a nail out of a wooden plank in the midst of black clouds. This piece symbolizes change for the greater good. Vladimir Salamuns Siamese Hammer Joined at the Handle 1982 brings up the question, why didnt I think of that? It also questions the actual design of the Hammer itself. Finally, Elaine Mayess Pegasus 1972 connects the old Greek mythology of Medusa to todays society with its representation of the Mobile Gas Company.
